Blondey McCoy, Adidas pro, model, and artist, named his skate clothing brand after the eponymous river dividing his hometown of London. As a pro skater, McCoy has made a name for himself in the general streetwear community by creating the coveted see-through Blondey McCoy Adidas Superstar. Launched all the way back as an art project in Blondey’s salad days, the brand has evolved to a staple of UK skateboarding: at first, Blondey’s former sponsor, Palace Skateboards, helped him set up his operation. Today, after seeing a relaunch in 2020, it has become wholly its own thing: as a fully-fledged skate and fashion company, it meets both the sartorial and hardware needs of skateboarders.
Blondey went to school in London; hence, he had to wear a school uniform. His formative years as a skater, artist, and schoolboy are reflected in the designs: Thames clothing comprises not only the regular streetwear gear such as t-shirts and hoodies but also preppy knitwear like cardigans and vests, as well as button-down shirts. Blondey McCoy’s heritage is evident in the Thames MMXX logo, a crown, which is a direct reference to British royalty. But since McCoy went to art school, his artistic facet shines through in Thames skateboarding decks, which often feature striking illustrations as well as typographic designs.
